Nicholas Sherry was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1943 and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of seven. After a successful career as an art director, designer, and illustrator in the advertising industry, he turned his attention to independent filmmaking.
     With no formal filmmaking experience, Nicholas Sherry undertook the challenge of writing, directing, photographing, editing, and producing his first feature-length docudrama, JUDE. Working without studio backing or professional production equipment, the film was photographed entirely with consumer-grade cameras and produced using modest resources. Although the audio quality was limited by the equipment available at the time, the project became an intensive learning experience that demanded mastery of every stage of filmmaking, from cinematography and sound recording to editing and post-production.
     JUDE stands as a testament to determination, creativity, and perseverance. It reflects Nicholas Sherry’s belief that compelling storytelling and emotional honesty can transcend technical limitations, demonstrating that vision, dedication, and persistence remain the most valuable tools of an independent filmmaker.
