I WAS BORN IN GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, IN THE YEAR 1943. AT THE AGE OF SEVEN, MY PARENTS IMMIGRATED TO CANADA. FOR MANY YEARS, I DREAMED OF BECOMING A FILM DIRECTOR, BUT I ENDED UP IN AN ADVERTISING CAREER AS AN ART DIRECTOR DESIGNER AND ILLUSTRATOR. ON RETIRING AND WITHOUT EXPERIENCE, I DECIDED TO GIVE FILMMAKING A TRY. THE DOCUDRAMA JUDE WAS MY FIRST MAJOR ATTEMPT AT A FEATURE FILM. I HAD TO LEARN HOW TO EDIT, DIRECT, WRITE, PRODUCE AND OPERATE A CAMERA— NO EASY TASK.
